NEWS FROM LUNENBURG COUNTY

Back in April and early May Charlotte and I made the rounds of central Maine just as the season was getting under way there and were able to buy a number of nice early pieces, as well as decorative pieces for Charlotte’s Web. Then it was off to Paris for a week and four more weeks traveling and taking in the wholesale markets, flea markets and antique shows. From the photograph of the rear of our Peugeot Partner you will get some idea of how much we brought back. The picture does not show two more trunks towards the front. Our airline overage was $550.

Back Here in Nova Scotia we have had a hectic month of catching up, getting my new business under way – THE DIS & DAT SHOP AT LEAN-TO ANTIQUES - and making a major changeover at CHARLOTTE’S WEB. In keeping with her ladylike theme, we purchased many elegant & early pieces of apparel & accessories, porcelain & glass and other whimsical & ephemeral gems.

We have also refurbished our space at
Hayes Antiques in Halifax. Outside of buying locally, we made three road trips, in part visiting some old-time collectors to see what we could pry loose. The word in the trade seems to be that it’s getting more and more difficult to find first-rate material.
WHERE DID IT ALL GO?

Our good friend Kelsie Taylor has also been active and is making a changeover at TAYLOR ANTIQUES
in Dayspring where she will be exhibiting for sale a large selection of pottery comprised of Nova Scotia redware, utilitarian and art pottery from France, Belgium & Canada, and a special feature of contemporary ceramics by the late David Taylor, including early functional works and later sculptural vessels. Of course she will also have her interesting array of Lunenburg County country pieces and
Nova Scotia folk art.
